nominalnivået
Nominalnivået refers to the lowest level of measurement in statistics, where data can only be categorized. This data lacks any inherent order or numerical value, making arithmetic operations meaningless. Examples include gender (male, female), hair color (blonde, brown, black), or yes/no responses. The only statistical operation that can be performed on nominal data is counting the frequency of each category and determining the mode, which is the most frequent category. Nominal data is also known as categorical data. It is crucial to distinguish nominal data from other measurement scales like ordinal, interval, and ratio levels, as the type of data dictates the appropriate statistical analyses that can be applied. For instance, calculating the mean or median of nominal data is statistically invalid. Understanding nominalnivået is fundamental for proper data analysis and interpretation in various fields, including social sciences, market research, and medicine.
