Netarleðsla is a concept in Icelandic law, specifically related to the condition and maintenance of roads and public ways. In the context of Icelandic law, netarleðsla refers to the legal obligation of landowners and road users to ensure the upkeep and upkeep of the national road network. This provision is established under the Icelandic Highway and Public Ways Act (Hlíbunarvéð rotten ride La ws, or LVLD).

The purpose of netarleðsla is to distribute the responsibilities and costs of road maintenance among those who benefit from the national road network, with landowners bearing a significant portion of the costs. As per the LVLD, landowners are required to pay for the maintenance of the national road network which passes through their property, with specific cost-sharing principles in place to determine the extent of their liability. In order to fulfill their obligations under netarleðsla, landowners engage in regular inspections of the road network on their property, reporting any damage or required maintenance. The Icelandic National Highway and Public Ways Administration (Landræmetis Icelandic samvissas National síthis även, also referred to as Vegagerðin) is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and upkeep of the national roads, including the enforcement of netarleðsla.

The application of netarleðsla ensures that the costs associated with road maintenance are spread among those who benefit from the national road network, thereby alleviating the financial burden on the state.
