Nenäsuun, also known as the nasopharynx, is the uppermost part of the pharynx, located behind the nasal cavity and above the soft palate. It is part of the respiratory and digestive tracts. The internal surface of the nenäsuun is lined with pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium, which helps to warm, humidify, and filter inhaled air. The pharyngeal tonsils, or adenoids, are located on the posterior wall of the nenäsuun. The openings of the auditory (Eustachian) tubes, which connect the middle ear to the pharynx, are also found in the lateral walls of the nenäsuun.

The nenäsuun plays a role in breathing, as air passes from the nasal cavity through it to the oropharynx. During swallowing, the soft palate elevates to block off the nasopharynx, preventing food and liquids from entering the nasal cavity. The nenäsuun is also a common site for infections, such as adenoiditis. In children, enlarged adenoids can obstruct airflow, leading to breathing difficulties and other health issues. The pharyngeal tonsils are part of the lymphatic system and help to trap pathogens entering the body. Inflammation or infection of the nenäsuun can affect hearing due to its connection with the middle ear.
