Nenähuisut is a phenomenon observed in the indigenous cultures of Lapland, a region that spans across northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia. The word "nenähuisut" translates to "weeping houses" or "houses in tears" in the local Sámi language.

These houses refer to ancient Sámi dwellings, typically built in remote areas, which are said to have the unique property of appearing to weep or cry tears. According to local legend, the houses exude a strange, pungent smell, which is believed to be the result of the Jasper lava rocks that are used as building material, seemingly imparting a dry, burning odor to their interior.

The phenomenon is not entirely understood, and there are various theories behind it. Some scientists speculate that the unique properties of the Jasper lava rocks could be the cause, while others propose that the strange smell might be due to various natural or cultural factors such as weather conditions, storage of ancient artifacts or rituals.

In traditional Sámi cultures, the weeping houses were said to possess a range of mystical and energetic properties. According to local stories, they could communicate spiritual energies between the harŋaloge (houses of worship) and individuals through raw sounds and wind energies. Whether such houses still exist or have faded into history remains unclear.
