nedensellii

Nedensellii is a species of flowering plant in the family Asteraceae. It belongs to the genus Nedensella, a small genus described in 2015 based on specimens from montane cloud forests of the northern Andes. The species name nedensellii honors a botanist involved with the Nedensella project.

Description: It is a perennial herb growing 12–35 cm tall. Stems are slender, with alternate, ovate leaves up to 6 cm long, finely dentate margins. Flower heads are solitary on short peduncles, with 8–12 yellow disc florets and 0–5 pale yellow ray florets; fruits are brown achenes with a soft pappus.

Distribution and habitat: Endemic to high-elevation cloud forests of the northern Andes, observed between 1,600 and 2,400 meters. It grows in shaded, humid understory with rich organic matter and partial canopy cover.

Ecology and conservation: Likely pollinated by native bees and flies; seed dispersal by wind due to pappus. Currently, Nedensellii has a limited known range and faces threats from deforestation and climate change. It has not been evaluated by major conservation lists.

Notes: The genus Nedensella is monotypic as of current descriptions; further research may adjust placement.
