Nahapõletik, medically known as dermatitis, refers to the inflammation of the skin. This condition can manifest in various forms and can be caused by a wide range of irritants and allergens. Common symptoms include redness, itching, swelling, and sometimes blistering or scaling of the affected skin. The severity can range from mild irritation to severe discomfort.

There are several types of dermatitis. Irritant contact dermatitis occurs when the skin comes into contact with a substance that damages its outer layer. Examples include harsh soaps, detergents, or certain chemicals. Allergic contact dermatitis, on the other hand, is an immune system reaction to an allergen, such as poison ivy, nickel, or fragrances. Atopic dermatitis, commonly known as eczema, is a chronic condition often associated with allergies and asthma, characterized by dry, itchy, and inflamed skin. Seborrheic dermatitis affects areas rich in oil glands, like the scalp and face, causing flaky, white to yellowish scales.

Diagnosis of dermatitis typically involves a physical examination of the skin and a review of the patient's medical history, including any known exposures to potential irritants or allergens. In some cases, patch testing may be used to identify specific allergens. Treatment strategies depend on the type and severity of the dermatitis. This can include avoiding triggers, using topical corticosteroids to reduce inflammation, moisturizers to restore the skin barrier, and in more severe cases, oral medications. Prevention often involves protecting the skin from harsh substances and managing underlying conditions.
