målnerven

Målnerven is a term that appears in some Swedish-language sources but is not part of the standard anatomical nomenclature used in contemporary medicine. It is not listed in major Swedish medical dictionaries, and its meaning can be ambiguous without context. In informal or historical texts, målnerven has sometimes been used to refer to the nerve or nerves that innervate the molar region of the jaw, but this usage is not precise and can be misleading.

In formal anatomical terms, the sensory innervation of the molars is provided by branches of the trigeminal nerve (nervus trigeminus). The upper molars receive innervation from the posterior, middle, and sometimes anterior superior alveolar nerves, which are branches of the maxillary nerve (nervus maxillaris, V2). The lower molars receive innervation from the inferior alveolar nerve, a branch of the mandibular division of the trigeminal nerve (nervus mandibularis, V3); its dental branches supply the molars and surrounding tissues, with continuations such as the mental nerve and incisive nerve in the anterior region.

Because målnerven is not a standard term, its exact meaning depends on the source. When encountered, it should be interpreted with caution and cross-checked against formal terminology. Standard references for tooth innervation include nervus trigeminus and its alveolar branches.
