Målnerv is a term used in Swedish to describe a type of nerve that is believed to transmit pain signals. The literal translation of "målnerv" is "pain nerve." While the concept of specific nerves dedicated solely to pain transmission is a simplification, the term reflects a historical understanding of the nervous system.

In modern neuroscience, pain perception is understood to be more complex. It involves specialized sensory receptors called nociceptors, which are found throughout the body.
