määräaikaisuuksia
Määräaikaisuuksia refers to fixed-term employment contracts in Finnish labor law. These contracts have a predetermined end date, distinguishing them from indefinite-term contracts which have no specified termination point. The use of fixed-term employment is regulated to prevent its abuse as a substitute for permanent employment. Employers generally need a justified reason to offer a fixed-term contract. Such reasons can include the temporary nature of the work, covering for an employee on leave, or a trial period. Without a valid reason, a fixed-term contract can be deemed to be of indefinite duration. Repeatedly renewed fixed-term contracts can also raise questions about their legitimacy and may be considered an attempt to circumvent permanent employment protections. Employees on fixed-term contracts have similar rights and obligations to those on indefinite contracts regarding pay, holidays, and working conditions. Upon the expiry of a fixed-term contract, the employment relationship ends automatically unless a new agreement is made or the contract is converted to an indefinite one.
