Multipoint innsprøytning, often abbreviated as MPI, is a type of fuel injection system used in internal combustion engines. In this system, each cylinder of the engine is equipped with its own fuel injector. These injectors are typically located in the intake manifold, just upstream of the intake valve. This placement allows for a more precise and even distribution of fuel to each cylinder compared to earlier single-point injection systems.

The MPI system works by electronically controlled injectors spraying fuel into the intake port. The engine's control unit (ECU) determines the precise amount of fuel needed for each injection event based on various sensor inputs, such as engine speed, throttle position, and air temperature. This controlled fuel delivery allows for improved fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and better engine performance. The fuel is mixed with air in the intake manifold before entering the combustion chamber. This contrasts with direct injection systems where fuel is sprayed directly into the combustion chamber. MPI systems have become a standard technology in modern gasoline engines due to their balance of cost-effectiveness and performance benefits.
