Types include direct-on-line starters, autotransformer or primary resistor starters, soft starters (solid-state controllers that limit inrush and torque), and variable frequency drives (VFDs) that control speed and torque. These starters provide overcurrent protection, control circuits, and sequencing to ensure safe and efficient motor operation.

Maintenance considerations include checking electrical connections, clean and secure mounting, inspecting brushes and bearings in DC starters, and ensuring proper cooling and protection against overload. Proper selection and care of motorstartar equipment enhances reliability and extends motor life.
