Motiivihöyrysuutin, often translated as motive steam nozzle, is a component used in various industrial applications, particularly in steam ejectors. Its primary function is to convert the potential energy of a high-pressure motive fluid, typically steam, into kinetic energy. This is achieved by expanding the motive fluid through a specially designed converging-diverging nozzle. As the steam expands, its pressure decreases significantly while its velocity increases dramatically.

The high-velocity jet of motive fluid then entrains and compresses a secondary fluid, which is usually a gas or vapor. This entrainment process creates a vacuum or a reduced pressure in the suction chamber of the ejector. The motive fluid and the entrained secondary fluid are then discharged together, often at a higher pressure than the suction pressure but lower than the motive fluid inlet pressure.

Motiivihöyrysuuttimet are critical for the operation of steam ejectors, which are widely used for vacuum generation, mixing, and pumping in industries such as chemical processing, petroleum refining, power generation, and refrigeration.
