Moshi is a city in northeastern Tanzania, serving as the administrative capital of Kilimanjaro Region and the center of Moshi Urban District. It lies on the eastern slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, near the Moshi River, and functions as a commercial hub for the surrounding agricultural areas. The town has a temperate climate for its latitude, with mild days and cooler nights due to elevation. Rainfall is seasonal, with the heaviest rains typically in the long wet season from March to May and a shorter wet period in October to December.

Historically, the Moshi area was inhabited by the Chagga people and developed under German East Africa rule in the late 19th century, later transitioning to British administration after World War I. The town grew as a trading center and gateway to Kilimanjaro region.
