Resonance occurs when the electrical length of the antenna is an integer multiple of a quarter or half wavelength of the radio wave.

Longer monosäieantennas, approaching multiple wavelengths, can exhibit more complex radiation patterns with multiple lobes. The effectiveness and performance of a monosäieantenna are heavily influenced by its height above ground, the surrounding environment, and the quality of its grounding or counterpoise system, if used.
