minuuttitilavuus

Minuuttitilavuus is a Finnish term referring to the capacity or throughput of a process measured per minute. It describes how much output a system can produce, or how many tasks it can complete, in one minute under nominal operating conditions. The concept is used in manufacturing, logistics, and service processes to assess performance and plan capacity.

Calculation: If a process produces N units in T minutes, the minuuttitilavuus is N divided by T, yielding units per minute. For line-based production with cycle time c minutes per unit and m parallel processing units, the theoretical minuuttitilavuus is m divided by c units per minute. Actual throughput may be lower due to downtime, changeovers, maintenance, quality losses, or variability. The measure is related to takt time (the rate required to meet demand) and to capacity utilization.

Example: A filling line that produces 2,400 bottles per hour has a minuuttitilavuus of 40 bottles per minute, assuming stable operation.

Use and interpretation: It is used for planning, process improvement, and benchmarking. It should be considered alongside uptime, yield, and cycle time to understand true system performance. The term is not universally used outside Finnish-language texts, and in English contexts it is typically described as throughput per minute or per-minute capacity.
