They work on the principle of electromagnetic induction, where sound waves cause a diaphragm to vibrate, moving a coil within a magnetic field. This movement generates an electrical current. Condenser microphones, on the other hand, are generally more sensitive and offer a wider frequency response and faster transient response compared to dynamic microphones. Other less common but notable microphone types include ribbon microphones, which are a type of dynamic microphone characterized by a thin, corrugated ribbon element, and USB microphones, which integrate a microphone and analog-to-digital converter into a single unit for direct connection to computers.
