A microprojector (also called a pico projector when very small) is a compact imaging device that projects video or still images onto a surface. Designed for portability and integration into small devices, microprojectors use miniature optics and light sources to create an image from a video input or onboard media. They are distinct from larger desktop and home-theater projectors by their reduced size, lower power consumption, and more limited brightness.

Several display technologies are used in microprojectors, including digital micromirror devices (DLP), liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS), and scanning laser or MEMS-based systems. Light sources typically include LEDs or laser diodes; lasers can increase brightness and color gamut while LEDs offer long life and compactness. Typical specifications emphasize lumens, resolution, contrast ratio, throw distance, and battery life for standalone units.

Microprojectors serve a variety of applications: mobile presentations, portable entertainment, heads-up displays, and integration into smartphones, cameras, and wearable devices. Their portability makes them useful in ad hoc meeting rooms, education, and consumer electronics where a fixed screen is impractical.

Limitations include lower brightness and contrast compared with full-size projectors, sensitivity to ambient light, and compromises in resolution or battery life due to size constraints. Safety considerations are relevant for laser-based systems. Ongoing developments aim to improve brightness, resolution, energy efficiency, and wireless connectivity, expanding usability in both consumer and professional contexts.
