microLEDnäyttöjen

MicroLEDnäyttöjen is a Finnish term referring to microLED displays. MicroLED is a novel display technology that uses microscopic LEDs as individual pixels. Unlike traditional LED-backlit LCDs, each pixel in a microLED display is a self-emissive micro-sized LED, meaning it generates its own light. This allows for a much higher pixel density and finer control over brightness and color compared to other display technologies.

The primary advantage of microLED technology lies in its exceptional image quality. Because each pixel emits its own light, microLED displays can achieve perfect blacks and infinite contrast ratios, similar to OLED displays. However, microLEDs are inorganic, which means they are generally more resistant to burn-in and can offer higher brightness levels and longer lifespans than organic LEDs. They also boast wider color gamuts and faster response times.

The manufacturing process for microLED displays is complex and currently quite expensive. It involves transferring millions of tiny LEDs onto a display substrate with extreme precision. This "mass transfer" challenge has been a significant hurdle to widespread commercial adoption. Despite these challenges, microLED technology is seen as a strong contender for future premium display applications, including televisions, smartphones, wearables, and large-scale video walls, promising superior visual performance and durability.
