metavanadaatti
Metavanadate is an anion with the chemical formula VO3−. It is a polyatomic ion containing one vanadium atom and three oxygen atoms. The vanadium atom in the metavanadate ion is in the +5 oxidation state. Metavanadate is a common form in which vanadium exists in aqueous solutions under slightly acidic to neutral conditions. As the pH of a vanadate solution decreases, metavanadate ions tend to polymerize, forming more complex polyvanadate species. For example, at lower pH values, decavanadate ions (V10O286−) can form. The sodium salt of metavanadate, sodium metavanadate (NaVO3), is a common and stable compound. Metavanadate compounds are often yellow or orange in color. They find applications in various industries, including as catalysts, in the production of glass and ceramics, and in the extraction of uranium. Some metavanadates also exhibit biological activity, though their toxicity is also a consideration.
