This multipotent nature makes mesenkyymi crucial for embryonic development, where it forms the basis for many of the body's tissues and organs.

In adult organisms, mesenkyymi persists as a source of regenerative cells. It is found in the bone marrow, where it gives rise to osteoblasts and other connective tissue components. They can be isolated, expanded in culture, and then differentiated into specific cell types to repair damaged tissues or treat diseases.
