mellemfrekvente

Mellemfrekvente is a Danish term used to describe the middle part of a frequency spectrum, and can refer to different but related concepts in acoustics, audio engineering, and telecommunications. In general usage it distinguishes the mid-frequency range from low (bass) and high (treble) frequencies.

In audio and loudspeaker design, mellemfrekvente typically covers roughly the range from a few hundred hertz up to about a few kilohertz. The exact boundaries vary by application, but this band contains much of the speech intelligibility and many musical elements. Midrange drivers or filters are designed to reproduce these frequencies with good linearity and minimal distortion; crossover networks separate low, mid, and high bands.

In telecommunications and radio engineering, mellemfrekvente can refer to the medium-frequency band (MF), defined internationally as 300 kHz to 3 MHz. This band has distinct propagation characteristics, including surface wave propagation over the Earth's surface and, at times, skywave propagation. Historically it supported AM broadcasting, maritime radiocommunication and navigation aids; today MF allocations differ by country and are subject to ITU regulations.

In practice, the term is used by Danish-language engineers and technicians to situate analysis, testing, or design within the mid-range, whether discussing audio systems or RF equipment.
