The mantle is the layer of the Earth located between the crust and the core, making up the vast majority of the planet's volume. These processes are primarily driven by the immense heat and pressure within the mantle, leading to the movement of rock material over geological timescales.

One of the most significant mantel processes is mantle convection. This is a slow, continuous circulation of hot, less dense material rising from deep within the mantle towards the surface, and cooler, denser material sinking back down.
