Magánnyugdíjpénztár, often abbreviated as MP, refers to a private pension fund in Hungary. These funds were established as part of a pension system reform aimed at supplementing the state pension. Membership in a Magánnyugdíjpénztár was mandatory for certain age groups entering the workforce during the system's initial implementation. Contributions were split between the employee and the employer, with a portion of the social security contribution being redirected to the individual's private pension account.

The funds are managed by specialized pension fund providers, which invest the collected contributions in various financial instruments, including stocks, bonds, and real estate, with the goal of generating returns to grow the pension savings over time. Members typically have some degree of choice in selecting their pension fund provider and, in some cases, investment strategies. The accumulated capital is intended to provide an additional source of income during retirement, supplementing the benefits received from the state pension system.

Over the years, the structure and mandatory nature of Magánnyugdíjpénztárak have undergone significant changes. Legislation has been introduced that allowed or mandated members to return to the state pension system.
