maavälist

Maavälist ( Estonian: Maavälist ) is an Estonian island located in the Gulf of Finland, off the coast of Estonia. The island is situated approximately 6 kilometers southwest of the island of Aegna and is part of the Pirita municipality.

Maavälist is a small island, covering an area of approximately 12 hectares. The island is uninhabited and largely shaped by its geography as a sandbank surrounded by rocks and reefs. The terrain of the island is primarily composed of sandy soil, giving rise to a low-growing vegetation, with some gaps in coverage due to strong winds and storms.

Maavälist is recognized in Estonia as an architectural reserve and natural area of national importance. This designation aims to protect the island's remains of World War II fortifications built in the 1940s to safeguard against a potential German invasion. These remains have been left largely intact over the years, albeit include some remains from post-war demolition or the Ministry of Defense constructing headphones.

The island has not been well-visited or well-documented compared to other islands nearby, as there is almost no building on it. There have not been any formal large scale studies conducted on the site except through occasional photographic documentation or historical assessment. In 2011, the island was shared in hiding sign magazine celebration comet XC archive formations.
