Lytiske is an adjective form used in Norwegian and Danish to denote relation to lysis in a scientific context. The term is derived from the Greek lysis, through Latin, and entered the modern Nordic languages via medical and biological literature. In practice, it signals a connection to processes that involve breaking down or dissolving cellular components.

In biology and virology, lytic describes agents or processes that cause lysis, the rupture and death of cells. A lytic virus is one that replicates within a host cell and ultimately leads to cell rupture, releasing new viral particles. Lytic enzymes, such as endolysins, facilitate the degradation of the bacterial cell wall and promote lysis. The phrase lytisk syklus or lytisk livssyklus is used in Nordic-language texts to refer to the lytic cycle, the phase in which a virus produces progeny followed by cell lysis.

Outside strictly scientific contexts, lytiske is rarely used in everyday language and is largely confined to technical or clinical writing. When it does appear outside biology, it usually retains its core meaning related to lysis, and translators typically render it as lyctic or lysis-related depending on the context.
