Lomanmääräytym, a Finnish term, translates to "leave entitlement" or "vacation accrual" in English. It refers to the process by which an employee earns the right to paid vacation days over a period of time. In Finland, labor laws dictate the minimum amount of vacation time that employees are entitled to.

The accrual of vacation days is typically based on the number of full months worked during a qualification year, which usually runs from April 1st to March 31st. For each full month of employment, an employee earns a certain number of vacation days. The exact number of days earned per month depends on the total length of the employment contract. For example, if an employee has a contract that lasts for at least a full year, they generally accrue two and a half vacation days per month. For shorter contracts, the accrual rate might be different.

These accrued vacation days can then be taken by the employee during the following vacation year, which typically starts on May 1st. The employer and employee are expected to agree on the timing of the vacation, taking into account the needs of the business and the employee's preferences. In cases where an employment relationship ends before the employee has been able to take all their accrued vacation, the unused days are usually compensated with a vacation bonus.
