llevásemos

Llevásemos is a form of the Spanish verb llevar. It is the imperfect subjunctive for the nosotros (we) form, used in subordinate clauses to express hypothetical, uncertain, or non-real past situations.

Form and alternates. In Spanish there are two standard imperfect subjunctive paradigms for the nosotros form: llevásemos and lleváramos. Both carry the same meaning and grammatical function, and usage varies by region and speaker. The choice between them does not change the sense of the sentence; it reflects a regional or stylistic preference.

Uses. Llevásemos appears in clauses that require the subjunctive in the past, most commonly after si (if) conditions or after verbs of desire, doubt, possibility, or necessity in the past. It can occur in reported or hypothetical statements and in formal or literary registers. The form is not used in the indicative or imperative moods.

Examples.

- Si llevásemos más tiempo, terminaríamos el proyecto. (If we had more time, we would finish the project.)

- No creía que llevásemos suficiente dinero para el viaje. (I didn’t believe that we had enough money for the trip.)

Notes. Llevásemos is part of the broader set of imperfect subjunctive endings that accompany -ar verbs in this mood. While the form is correct and widely understood, some speakers prefer lleváramos in the same temporal and modal context. Both variants are recognized in standard Spanish.
