Linkitetettu is a Finnish word that refers to the unwinding or purging of information from an intelligence agency's computer database. The term is particularly associated with the National Security Agency (NSA) of the United States, where it was used to describe the process of so-called " cable purging." This involved reviewing and purging telephone and other communications metadata that had been collected outside of the United States, in an effort to comply with a 1999 court ruling passed by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court.
