García Oliver joined the **Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT)**, Spain’s largest anarchist syndicate, in his youth and rose through its ranks. He played a key role in the **1936 Spanish Revolution**, which preceded the broader Spanish Civil War (1936–1939). During this period, he served as a minister in the **Catalan government** and later in the **Central Committee of the CNT**, advocating for workers' control of industry and collective anarchist governance. After the defeat of the Republican side in the Spanish Civil War, García Oliver fled to France, where he was imprisoned as an enemy alien during World War II.
