Lingvistic is not a standard term in the field of linguistics. In English, the established word for the science of language is linguistics, and the related adjective is linguistic. When encountered, lingvistic is typically a misspelling or typographical error in English texts.

In some cases, lingvistic may appear as a deliberate or stylistic choice in branding, titles, or fiction. Its presence does not indicate a distinct academic discipline and should be treated as nonstandard unless defined by a specific context or brand.

In non-English contexts, similar-looking forms may be legitimate, reflecting local spelling conventions. For example, forms such as lingvistisk appear in Danish or Norwegian, and lingvistik can appear as part of a local word for the study of language.
