Levélfajták refers to the different types of leaves found on plants. Leaves are the primary organs for photosynthesis and come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and arrangements. Understanding these variations is crucial in botany and plant identification.

One fundamental distinction is between simple and compound leaves. A simple leaf has a single, undivided blade, though it may be lobed. Examples include maple or oak leaves. A compound leaf, on the other hand, has a blade that is divided into several smaller leaflets, which can be arranged in various patterns, such as pinnate (like a feather) or palmate (like fingers on a hand). Ash and clover are common examples of plants with compound leaves.

Leaf shape is another significant characteristic. Common shapes include ovate (egg-shaped), lanceolate (long and narrow, like a lance), cordate (heart-shaped), and linear (very narrow and long). The margin, or edge, of a leaf can also vary, being entire (smooth), serrated (toothed like a saw), or dentate (toothed with teeth pointing outwards).

Leaf arrangement on the stem, known as phyllotaxy, is also categorized. Opposite arrangement means leaves grow in pairs directly across from each other. Alternate arrangement means leaves grow singly at each node, staggered along the stem. Whorled arrangement occurs when three or more leaves grow from the same node. These different leaf types and arrangements are key adaptations for optimizing light capture and water conservation, contributing to the diverse forms seen in the plant kingdom.
