A levéldugvány, or leaf cutting, is a propagation technique used in horticulture to create new plants from pieces of a leaf. This method is particularly common for certain species of houseplants like succulents, African violets, and snake plants. The process involves taking a healthy leaf, or sometimes a portion of a leaf, and inducing it to form roots and shoots.

There are variations in how levéldugványok are performed depending on the plant species. For some, the entire leaf is detached from the parent plant and placed on the surface of or slightly inserted into a growing medium, such as moist soil or perlite. For others, a leaf may be cut into several smaller sections, with each section containing a portion of the leaf blade and ideally the petiole or a bit of stem.

Once prepared, the leaf cutting is typically kept in a warm, humid environment with indirect light. Over time, adventitious roots will emerge from the cut surface or along the edges of the leaf. Subsequently, plantlets or new shoots will develop from the base of the leaf or from the developing roots. These plantlets will eventually grow into independent plants, at which point they can be separated from the parent leaf and potted up individually. This method allows for efficient multiplication of desirable plant varieties.
