Levyämyksen is a Finnish term that translates roughly to "plate tectonics" or "continental drift" in English. It refers to the geological theory that the Earth's outer shell, the lithosphere, is divided into several large and small plates that move independently over the semi-fluid asthenosphere beneath them.
