Lauseosaa is a term used in some Estonian-language linguistic descriptions to denote a clause element, the unit that participates in the construction of a clause within a sentence. It is a way to describe how parts of a sentence function together to convey meaning, rather than a fixed word class by itself. In practice, lauseosaa can refer to any segment of a sentence that contributes to the meaning of a clause.

Lauseosad can serve different syntactic roles within a clause. Common examples include subjects, predicates, objects, complements, and adverbials. A sentence may contain several lauseosad, whether within a single clause or across coordinated and subordinate clauses. In simple terms, a lauseosaa is a part of the sentence that helps form the overall clause structure.

There are two broad kinds of lauseosaa: finite and non-finite. Finite lauseosaa include a finite verb and express tense or mood, forming the core of a main clause or a subordinate clause. Non-finite lauseosaa use infinitives, participles, or other non-finite forms inside a larger clause. Connectors such as ja (and), või (or), kui (if), and et (that) link lauseosad and indicate relationships like coordination or subordination.

Word order in Estonian is relatively flexible due to case markings, which means the assignment of words to a particular lauseosaa can shift for emphasis or style. In complex sentences, lauseosad can be nested or arranged to express temporal, causal, or conditional relationships.
