Laserohjaus, often translated as laser guidance or laser targeting, refers to the use of laser light to direct munitions or guide vehicles. In the context of weaponry, laser guidance systems allow projectiles such as missiles, bombs, or smart bullets to home in on a target illuminated by a laser designator. This illumination can be performed by a ground-based observer, an aircraft, or the munition itself. The laser light reflects off the target, and a seeker in the munition detects this reflected light, adjusting its trajectory to maintain contact with the source. This method offers high precision and can significantly improve hit probability, even against moving targets or in challenging environmental conditions.

Beyond military applications, laser guidance can also be employed in industrial settings for precision alignment or in automated systems for navigation. For instance, automated guided vehicles (AGVs) in warehouses might use laser guidance to follow a predetermined path or to navigate around obstacles. The technology relies on the ability to accurately emit, detect, and track laser beams. Advances in laser technology and sensor capabilities have continuously improved the performance, range, and reliability of laser guidance systems. Despite its advantages, laser guidance can be susceptible to countermeasures such as smoke, fog, or laser jamming devices that can obscure or interfere with the laser signal.
