Lalbuminurie, also known as albuminuria, is a medical condition characterized by the presence of albumin, a type of protein, in the urine. Normally, the kidneys filter waste products from the blood while retaining essential proteins like albumin. However, when the kidney's filtering units, called glomeruli, are damaged, albumin can leak into the urine.

Albuminuria is a significant indicator of kidney disease, particularly diabetic nephropathy and hypertensive nephropathy. It can also be a sign of other conditions affecting the kidneys, such as glomerular disease, urinary tract infections, and certain autoimmune disorders. The amount of albumin in the urine can vary, and it is often detected through a simple urine test called a urinalysis. A more specific test, the albumin-to-creatinine ratio (ACR), is often used to quantify the level of albumin and monitor kidney function over time.

Early detection and management of albuminuria are crucial for preventing further kidney damage and progression to kidney failure. Treatment typically involves addressing the underlying cause, such as controlling blood sugar levels in diabetes or managing blood pressure in hypertension. Lifestyle modifications, including dietary changes and regular exercise, can also play a role in managing the condition.
