Labiodentaalinen is a phonetic term referring to a consonant sound produced by bringing the lower lip into contact with the upper teeth. This articulation creates a friction sound as air is forced through the narrow gap. The most common labiodental consonants in many languages are the voiceless labiodental fricative /f/ and the voiced labiodental fricative /v/.

In the production of a labiodental sound, the muscles of the lower lip and the jaw are engaged to position the lip against the incisors of the upper jaw. The tongue's position can vary depending on the specific sound being produced, but it typically remains in the mouth and does not directly participate in the primary point of articulation. The airflow is then modulated by the constriction between the lip and teeth, resulting in either a voiceless sound (like /f/ in English "fan") or a voiced sound (like /v/ in English "van"), where the vocal cords also vibrate.

Labiodental sounds are found in a wide range of languages globally. Their presence and phonemic status (whether they are distinct sounds that change word meaning) vary significantly.
