lääninhallitus
Lääninhallitus, or the provincial state administration, was the central government authority responsible for administration in a Finnish province (lääni). It functioned as the state’s regional representation and coordinating body within the province, bridging central government policy and local administration. The office was led by the läänin maaherra (governor), who acted as the state’s representative in the province and presided over the lääninhallitus. The governor supervised the work of state agencies operating in the province and ensured that national laws and policies were implemented at the regional level.
