The efficiency of the refrigeration cycle is determined by the coefficient of performance (COP), which is the ratio of the heat removed from the cold space to the work input required to drive the compressor. Improvements in refrigeration technology have focused on increasing the COP, making refrigeration systems more energy-efficient.
