Kædetopologien, also known as the chain topology, is a computer network arrangement where devices are connected in a linear sequence. Each device in the chain is connected to exactly two other devices, except for the two end devices which are connected to only one. This creates a single path for data to travel through the network.

Data transmission in a kædetopology typically occurs in one direction, from one end of the chain to the other. If a device needs to send data to another device, the data must pass through all the intermediate devices in between. This means that each device acts as a repeater, regenerating the signal before passing it along. This can be advantageous in terms of signal strength over long distances.

The primary advantage of a kædetopology is its simplicity and low cost of implementation. It requires less cabling than some other topologies. However, it suffers from significant drawbacks. The failure of any single device or cable segment can disrupt the entire network, as it breaks the linear path. Furthermore, troubleshooting can be difficult, and network performance can degrade as more devices are added to the chain due to the increased number of hops data must take. For these reasons, kædetopologien is rarely used in modern networking.
