Kärnändningen, also known as the Core Distillation or Central Distillation, refers to a method used in the production of synthetic fuel, also known as Montan wax orSCO, a byproduct in the koks traffic extraction of coal.

Coal is heated, releasing various volatile compounds and solid particles. The coke produced can then be further treated to separate different constituents, allowing for the creation of synthetic fuels and various chemicals through various processes. The purpose of the core distillation method is to isolate specific compounds, including those that would otherwise be lost during the ordinary procurement of coal or be systematically removed as unwanted byproducts.
