kumüülhüdroperoksiid
Kumüülhüdroperoksiid, also known as cumene hydroperoxide or CHP, is an organic peroxide with the chemical formula C₆H₅C(CH₃)₂OOH. It is a colorless to pale yellow liquid that is unstable and can decompose violently if heated or subjected to shock. CHP is primarily used as an intermediate in the industrial production of phenol and acetone via the cumene process. In this process, cumene (isopropylbenzene) is oxidized to form kumüülhüdroperoksiid, which is then cleaved in the presence of an acid catalyst to yield phenol and acetone. This method is the dominant industrial route for producing these two important chemicals.
Kumüülhüdroperoksiid is also employed as an initiator in polymerization reactions, particularly for certain types of plastics
