Kulturar is a term encountered mainly in Scandinavian languages as a colloquial shorthand for kulturarv, meaning cultural heritage. It is not standard in dictionaries or formal writing. In practice, kulturar may appear on event banners, educational materials, or online discussions as a brief label referring to the cultural assets of a community or nation. Because of its informal status, its precise scope depends on the context.

Kulturarv comprises tangible heritage (sites, monuments, artifacts) and intangible heritage (traditions, performances, languages, crafts). Cultural heritage is protected and studied to understand a community's history and identity, and to promote continuity across generations. International frameworks, such as UNESCO's Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (2003) and the World Heritage List (1972), guide preservation and awareness.

In formal contexts, kulturarv should be used; kulturar may be used informally but should be defined when introduced. The term can be used in cultural studies, museum discourse, and heritage policy, but ambiguity should be avoided in official texts.
