Koszorúérerek, also known as coronary arteries, are the blood vessels that supply oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle itself. These arteries branch off from the aorta, the main artery leaving the left ventricle of the heart. The two main coronary arteries are the left main coronary artery and the right coronary artery.

The left main coronary artery quickly divides into two major branches: the left anterior descending artery and the left circumflex artery. The left anterior descending artery supplies blood to the front and bottom of the left ventricle and the front of the septum. The left circumflex artery supplies blood to the outer wall of the left ventricle. The right coronary artery supplies blood to the right ventricle, the right atrium, and the sinoatrial and atrioventricular nodes, which are crucial for regulating the heart's rhythm.

Blockages or narrowing of the koszorúérerek, often caused by atherosclerosis (plaque buildup), can lead to reduced blood flow to the heart muscle. This condition is known as coronary artery disease (CAD). If the blockage is severe, it can result in chest pain (angina) or a heart attack (myocardial infarction) when the blood supply is significantly compromised, causing damage to the heart muscle.
