Korrelasjon refers to a statistical relationship between two variables. It indicates the extent to which two variables change together. When variables are correlated, a change in one variable is associated with a change in the other. This relationship can be positive, negative, or non-existent.

A positive correlation means that as one variable increases, the other variable also tends to increase. For example, as hours spent studying increase, exam scores might also tend to increase. A negative correlation, on the other hand, indicates that as one variable increases, the other variable tends to decrease. An example could be that as the number of hours spent playing video games increases, the amount of time spent on homework might decrease. If there is no correlation, changes in one variable do not appear to be related to changes in the other.

Correlation is often measured using a correlation coefficient, typically denoted by 'r'. This coefficient ranges from -1 to +1. A value of +1 indicates a perfect positive linear correlation, -1 indicates a perfect negative linear correlation, and 0 indicates no linear correlation. It is crucial to remember that correlation does not imply causation. Just because two variables are correlated does not mean that one causes the other; there might be a third, unobserved factor influencing both.
