A koordinátaháló, sometimes referred to as a grid system or coordinate plane, is a fundamental concept in mathematics and its applications. It consists of two perpendicular lines, typically a horizontal line called the x-axis and a vertical line called the y-axis, that intersect at a point known as the origin. This origin is assigned the coordinates (0,0).

The axes divide the plane into four distinct regions called quadrants. These quadrants are numbered I, II, III, and IV in a counter-clockwise direction, starting from the upper right. Each point in this plane can be uniquely identified by an ordered pair of numbers, (x, y), where the first number (x) represents the horizontal distance from the y-axis and the second number (y) represents the vertical distance from the x-axis. Positive values of x are to the right of the origin, negative values to the left. Similarly, positive values of y are above the origin, and negative values are below.

Koordinátaháló systems are essential for graphing functions, representing geometric shapes, and solving problems in various fields, including physics, engineering, computer graphics, and cartography. They provide a standardized way to describe locations and relationships between objects in a two-dimensional space. Different coordinate systems exist, such as polar coordinates, but the Cartesian coordinate system, based on perpendicular axes, is the most widely used.
