A koordinaatsüsteemiga, or coordinate system, is a method used to define the position of points in space. It consists of a set of rules, usually involving numbers called coordinates, that uniquely identify each location. The most common type is the Cartesian coordinate system, named after René Descartes. In a two-dimensional Cartesian system, a point is located by its distance from two perpendicular lines called axes, typically labeled the x-axis and the y-axis. The intersection of these axes is the origin. In three-dimensional space, a third axis, the z-axis, is added, and a point is identified by three coordinates (x, y, z). Other coordinate systems exist, such as polar coordinates, which use a distance from a central point and an angle, or spherical coordinates, which use radial distance, polar angle, and azimuthal angle. Coordinate systems are fundamental in mathematics, physics, engineering, geography, and computer graphics, enabling precise description and analysis of spatial relationships.
