Kontrollálhatóság is a Hungarian term that translates to controllability in English. In mathematics and engineering, particularly in control theory, controllability refers to a property of a system. A system is considered controllable if, for any initial state and any desired final state, there exists a control input that can drive the system from the initial state to the final state within a finite time.

The concept of controllability is fundamental to designing effective control systems. If a system is not controllable, it means that certain states are unreachable regardless of the control signals applied. This limitation can significantly impact the system's performance and its ability to achieve desired objectives.

Mathematically, controllability is often analyzed using state-space representations of systems. For a linear time-invariant system, a common criterion for controllability involves the rank of the controllability matrix, which is constructed from the system's state matrix and input matrix. If the controllability matrix has full rank, the system is considered controllable.

Understanding and ensuring the controllability of a system is crucial before attempting to design a controller. If a system is found to be uncontrollable, it may be necessary to modify the system itself, such as by adding new actuators or changing system parameters, to make it controllable. Alternatively, the control objective might need to be redefined to focus only on the controllable subspace of the system's states.
