Konjugaattiemästen is a Finnish term referring to a concept in chemistry. It translates to "conjugate base" in English. A conjugate base is formed when an acid loses a proton (H+). Acids are substances that donate protons, and when they do, the remaining part of the molecule is its conjugate base.

For example, when acetic acid (CH3COOH) reacts with water, it donates a proton. The acetic acid molecule then becomes the acetate ion (CH3COO-), which is its conjugate base. Similarly, when hydrochloric acid (HCl) donates a proton, its conjugate base is the chloride ion (Cl-).
