Kondicionerët, known scientifically as air conditioners, are devices designed to cool and dehumidify the air within an enclosed space. They work by employing a refrigeration cycle to transfer heat from the interior of a building to the exterior. This process involves a refrigerant that circulates through a closed loop, undergoing changes in pressure and temperature.

The primary components of a typical air conditioning system include an evaporator coil, a compressor, a condenser coil, and an expansion valve. In the evaporator, a low-pressure liquid refrigerant absorbs heat from the indoor air, causing it to evaporate into a gas. This cooled air is then circulated back into the room. The gaseous refrigerant then moves to the compressor, where its pressure and temperature are increased. Next, it flows to the condenser coil, typically located outdoors, where it releases the absorbed heat to the outside air and condenses back into a liquid. Finally, the expansion valve reduces the pressure of the liquid refrigerant, preparing it to enter the evaporator again, thus completing the cycle.

Air conditioners are widely used in residential, commercial, and industrial settings to provide thermal comfort and preserve goods that require specific temperature conditions. Modern units often include features like programmable thermostats, energy-saving modes, and air filtration to improve air quality. The efficiency of an air conditioner is measured by its Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER).
